Clarification on End of Year Checklist re: Grade Books
Grade books only have to be turned in to the office if they are paper-based or were kept on a computer program that is not tied directly to the BSD Skyward student records system.
Celebrate Success

Makeups: The LAP classified staff will be conducting make ups tomorrow (Tuesday, 6/14). They will come to individual classrooms and pull students.

June 16th, the day after Field Day seems to be filling up quickly and starting to be almost as hectic and fun packed as the day before it. So in order for All 3rd, 4th and 5th Grades to attend the Choir, Orchestra and Band concert that will be held at 1:15 to 2:00, 3rd Grade and 1st Grade will be switching their plan, recess and lunch times.
11:40-12:25: 1st Grade Plan

12:55-1:20: 1st Grade Recess
1:15-2:00: Choir/Band/Orchestra Concert (3rd, 4th & 5th)

Required emergency staff training on FERPA Friday at 12:05
I have been directed to conduct a meeting on FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). The following email message from Executive Director of Special Services explains why this meeting is required.
"This spring a parent filed a records request. During the course of the review of records the parent came across a document that did not belong to their child. This precipitated the parent filing a Special Education Citizen Complaint SECC No. 16-18 expressing concern of our handling of student records. As a result of this complaint OSPI has directed the district to take multiple actions including staff training and providing guidance on FERPA for all certificate and classified staff that have contact with educational records."
At first an email with the information was sent to share with staff as the training. OSPI, however has stated that an email is not good enough. The training has to be done face to face. I will provide the training tomorrow after the students leave. I hope to have it taken care of in 15 minutes.
Certificated and classified should come to the library for the training.

Laura Lengele: Laura has accepted a Kindergarten position at Nelson Elementary
Stephanie Victorian: Stephanie will be moving to Texas with her daughter.Amanda Wheat (Orchestra): Amanda is moving to the secondary level in BSD.
Peter Geyer (Band): Peter is also moving to the secondary as well, also in BSD.
Staff who are joining NS in the coming year
Anna Stokke: Now that Laura is moving to a new school, Anna is able to stay. She will continue to teach 2nd Grade.
Justine Espiritu: Justine will continue as a Kindergarten teacher at NSSam Booth (Orchestra): Sam is new to BSD and works at BMS.
Mike Mercer (Band): Mike is the band director at GKHS.
Library Info for End of Year
Check Out
All books are pretty much due this week. We stagger it a little so the students should be down to 1 paperback unless they are finishing a hardback fiction. We will be sending notices, emails, etc. to families but if you happen to be making contact with a parent & remember they have a book out we'd appreciate you mentioning it. We'll try to keep your lists updated regularly.
Staff Equipment & Books- please be sure to label when dropped off.
All extra items are due this week. We are not collecting any of your regular curriculum at this point but will need to pop into classrooms in the next week to scan and find some items. Thank you for your flexibility with this.
Doc cameras & projectors can be delivered on the last day of school- please be sure to detach cords if you are placing it in a box or bag to return. Also note any issues the equipment might be having.
Science Books
We will be unpacking and creating stacks but not delivering to your classrooms yet. If you are taking a science summer institute class, you may want to come check out a student text to take along.
Laptops
Unless you notify me otherwise, I am assuming that you are going to be taking your laptop for the summer. I will check it out to you for that time period on the computer and then will need to confirm it's existence when we return in the fall. No need to fill out the paperwork this year. (6/8/16)
Early vs Late School
I thought I shared this information and can't seem to find it on the blog so here it goes for the first time or the second, you decide.
Next year we will follow the same bell schedule as a late school. NS will be 9:15 - 3:45.
In the 2017-18 school year, we will move to an early school. The early school schedule at this time is 8:30 -3:00. (6/3)
