Wrist Bands
Wrist bands have been ordered for primary teachers to use for after school transportation info. We will have colors for all the busses, plus daycare and parent pickup. These can be attached to the child's backpack. You can write on them with a Sharpie for individual notes. (8/17)

State Testing Update
Please take a look at the following link to district-wide SBA results rank ordered by highest performing school to lowest performing.
Note North Star's position relative to the State and District average scores.
Also look at where our students performed when looking at the poorer students in the district (percentages in pink). Backing out those schools puts us at second to the last place just above Fredrickson Elementary.
Let's be thinking about these results and be prepared to discuss how we can influence a change that puts our school on the left side of the state performance at minimum and to the top at best. I know we can do this. I sincerely believe we have what we need to do that....right here with the staff and students we have.
First Day of Work for Teachers
September 8 is our first work day. We will follow our normal work day hours 8:40 - 4:10. September 9 is the first day for Grades 1 - 5. Kindergarten students and parents will conference with their teachers. The first full day for Kindergarten students will be September 14. Open House will start at 3:00. We ask parents to come by the first letter of their last name creating a staggered arrival to aid with parking.

New Curriculum Software to replace ScootPad
I recently learned that another elementary school in the district purchased a site license for a program similar to ScootPad. What caught my attention is that they were paying half the price of a license than us. I asked Laura and Jana to take a look at the two programs side-by-side and critique the pros and cons for each program. In terms of content, reporting features and ease of use, the programs are very similar. Given this information, I have decided to not renew our ScootPad subscription for the coming year and instead move to MobyMax. We will save money and provide a new learning environment for students that have been using ScootPad for a couple years.
